Who Wants A Healthy Ice Cream This Summer? Anyone?
What About A Healthy Ice Cream ?
I know you’ve seen about a million ads for the perfect, guilt-free, sweet-tooth relieving perfect dessert, only to be faced with disappointment when you bothered to read the label. You know that they’re not perfect, and they’re definitely not guilt-free- how could they be when you can’t pronounce half of the ingredients? So now you’re probably losing all hope of finding the perfect healthy ice cream that will taste like actual ice cream and have simple, easy-to-spell ingredients.
Well I want to take the guilt out of ice cream (because it’s just not fair!), and instead I will show you how I make a healthy ice cream version using fresh, natural, tasty ingredients.
If you’re anything like me (you know, with the sweet tooth of a 6 year old), you’re going to LOVE today’s healthy ice cream recipe.
Ingredients:
- 2 bananas (peeled, sliced and then frozen- trust me, freezing them before peeling… not as smart as it seems);
- 3 tablespoons 1% low fat milk;
- 1 tablespoon chopped walnuts;
- Optional: a bit of cocoa powder, if you’re thinking what I’m thinking (mmmm cocoa and hazelnuts, the main ingredients in Nutella!).
How it’s done:
The big magical secret to making this “fancy” healthy ice cream is your food processor. Because all you have to do is throw the ingredients in the processor and pulse for a few seconds. The banana will give it sweetness, but if you have some that are not very ripe you can also add a teaspoon of honey.
After you put this healthy ice cream in some nice glasses, feel free to decorate them. Maybe some blueberries? A slice or two of sweet melon? Or maybe you have some left over walnuts that you can sprinkle on top! If you toast them in a pan for a couple of minutes they will release an amazing flavour that will go great with this healthy ice cream. Just make sure you wait until they cool down- we don’t want this to turn into a smoothie, right?
Pretty much any combination works. The main ingredient that keeps this healthy ice cream together is the banana, which is consistent, naturally sweet, cheap and easy to find (what more can we ask for?). Apart from the banana you could make your own healthy ice cream recipes by adding your favourite flavours.
